I, Chunyang Lu, declare that I have ceased to be a member of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s Young Pioneers upon reaching the age of fourteen. I have then refused to join CCP’s Youth League. At that time, I had to falsely claim that I’d be happy to join but I suffer from psychiatric disorders which would make me ineligible to join. I was going to fake a doctor’s note but CCP officials did not bother to ask for it. The truth, however, is I never was willing to join any CCP-affiliated organizations. I condemn CCP’s family planning policy, owing to which my mother had been forced to undergo two abortions and deprived of necessary medical care. These abortions against her will have jeopardized my mother’s physical and mental health. I condemn CCP’s Household Registration Law (Hukou Law), owing to which I, a dependent child at that time, was not able to stay with my uncle and ant, while my mother was very sick. I condemn CCP’s ban on house churches, owing to which I and my parents were harassed by police. My father was a Protestant who used to attend a house church that does not swear allegiance to the CCP, because their faith is apolitical. However, the local authorities found out about these house churches, and forced all attendees and their family members to sign a legal form that they are not given time to read, and swear orally that they will not continue to attend house churches and any other unregistered religious venues, after publicly shaming the attendees and their family. Hence, I was, and I am, no part of CCP.
